2025 DATES & INFO COMING SOON

2024 Youth Summer BASKETBALL CAMP

Our community is so fortunate to have talented, experienced individuals who want to invest in our community.

Islander Glenn Ryerson has once again offered to conduct our 4rd Annual Summer basketball camp - free of charge - for our island for boys and girls ages 8-12!

This year will have 4 sessions on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00-11:00am. Each child should wear sneakers and bring a water bottle. Please help spread the word as the more kids that participate and attend regularly the better basketball experience for all involved. Thank you.

Anderson Island Park & Recreation District is proud to sponsor and support this event. See details below.

GET REGISTERED!

Parent/guardian contact Glenn Ryerson at  wfr611@gmail.com  or  561-843-1383  to indicate their child/children will be participating.

Please provide:

  • Parent/guardian name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Each child's name and age
  • Camp dates you can reasonably expect the child to attend

Sneakers are required and we suggest bringing a water bottle.

CAMP SESSIONS

The camp is free for all boys and girls ages 8-12, regardless of skill level. Our goal is to have fun while helping to improve basketball skills. With the older group, we'll also be playing some practice games and then holding a tournament.

Consideration will be given to add more dates based on participation and interest.

  • WHEN: Monday & Thursday mornings from 10:00-11:00am
  • ARRIVE: All attendees should be at the elementary school court by 9:55 so we can start promptly at 10:00 as a group
  • WHERE: Anderson Island Elementary Ball Field

The dates for the 2-week camp are as follows:

  • MONDAYS: 7/8 & 7/15
  • THURSDAYS: 7/11 & 7/18

Fun First!

Glenn knows that to build community sports, it has to start with making it fun and accessible for kids, slowly building skills and engagement until there can be more formal matches or tournaments.

We took some lessons learned from our first year, but the heart of this camp remains the same - flexibility, engagement and fun are what will drive our structure.

  • We want kids to show up and connect.
  • We want anyone - at any skill level - to feel like it’s a safe place to try new things and learn.
  • We want to encourage teamwork and a supportive environment.
  • The camp works best with regular attendance for continuity, teaching progression and a greater opportunity for real game experience. Certificates and awards will be given to participants who attend most or all of the camp days.
  • Do you have schedule conflicts? Sign up anyway and just communicate when you can’t attend - we can adjust for that!
  • Do you have questions about anything else that might keep you from signing up? Contact Glenn - he’s happy to answer any questions.

Someday -  down the road - we might have have a vibrant community of friendly competition in basketball matches and tournaments, but that has to build over time.

For now, we want to give island kids some fun, support, activity, and skills.

A LIttle About Glenn

In high school and college, Glenn ran all aspects of his local high school summer basketball league. He played D3 college basketball, was head coach of the JV men's team his senior year in college, and later coached his daughter's rec teams.

In 2021, he approached AIPRD about bringing his skills to island youth, and ran a 4-week basketball camp.

His goal for our basketball camp is fun, skills improvement and sending at least two participants to the NBA/WNBA. Glenn is confident that he can accomplish two of these objectives.
