Our community is so fortunate to have talented, experienced individuals who want to invest in our community.
Islander Glenn Ryerson has once again offered to conduct a summer basketball camp - free of charge - for our island kids!
Anderson Island Park & Recreation District is proud to sponsor and support this event. Size and structure of teams will be based on the number of participants, but we know there will be two camps - one for elementary-age kids, and another for middle- and high-school-aged.
See details for each camp below.
Parent/guardian contact Glenn Ryerson (wfr611@gmail.com / 561-843-1383) to indicate their child/children will be participating.

Sneakers are required and we suggest bringing a water bottle.
Glenn knows that to build community sports, it has to start with making it fun and accessible for kids, slowly building skills and engagement until there can be more formal matches or tournaments.
We took some lessons learned from our first year, but the heart of this camp remains the same - flexibility, engagement and fun are what will drive our structure.
Someday - maybe this year…maybe years down the road - we might have have a vibrant community of friendly competition in basketball matches and tournaments, but that has to build over time.
For now, we want to give island kids some fun, support, activity, and skills.
The camp is free for all boys and girls ages 8-12, regardless of skill level. Our goal is to have fun while helping to improve basketball skills. With the older group, we'll also be playing some practice games and then holding a tournament.
Consideration will be given to add more dates based on participation and interest.
The dates for the five-week camp are as follows:
In high school and college, Glenn ran all aspects of his local high school summer basketball league. He played D3 college basketball, was head coach of the JV men's team his senior year in college, and later coached his daughter's rec teams.
In 2021, he approached AIPRD about bringing his skills to island youth, and ran a 4-week basketball camp.
His goal for our basketball camp is fun, skills improvement and sending at least two participants to the NBA/WNBA. Glenn is confident that he can accomplish two of these objectives.
