Where Nature Comes to Life

The Anderson Island Summer Nature Adventure Camp is an annual event sponsored by the Anderson Island Park and Recreation District.  Children that participate must be between 6 and 10 years old.   The event occurs entirely on Anderson Island.

The objective is to acquaint children with their natural surroundings on land, fresh water, and in the marine environment using a hands-on, interactive approach to learning.  The children will encounter marine animals from above and below the low tide line, and learn about scientific methods.

In 2025, we've lowered the age of campers to a max of 10, but opened up an opportunity for youth ages 11-12 to join us as Jr. Counselors. Through the years, we've seen that our oldest campers craved a higher level of engagement and many had attended the camp multiple times. This Jr. Counselor role encourages them to be more involved in how camp activities are executed and allows older kids to mentor and support younger one's discovery. This is a role that parents would still register for and the fee associated with it ($15) helps cover the camp hat and administrative costs.

There is a high adult to child ratio with many parents participating, along with Park District Commissioners, teachers, divers, citizens of Anderson Island and educators from the Nisqually Nature Center. Parents are encouraged to assist by leading or helping lead small groups of children.

2025 Registration will open :

  • April 6th for youth who are full-time residents. Register now!
  • April 13th for open registration
